Anxiety

  You are crying out in silence, But you do not walk alone. Through the shadows of the valley, Other weary hearts have known. Those who guide you through the darkness Carry heavy burdens too; They have worn the shoes of sorrow, And they bleed the same as you. For the heart is never broken, It is only broken wide, To reveal the hidden courage That was sleeping deep inside. Like the shifting of the weather, Every heavy cloud will pass; Storms will rage across the seasons, But the sun returns at last. Do not fight the passing shadows, Let the tears and feelings flow. Peace is found in quiet healing, Accepting where you have to go. For the world may shake around you, And your earthly friends may depart, But a promise stands unchanging To protect your fragile heart. Though the ancient mountains tremble, And the jagged hills remove, You are anchored in the shelter Of a fierce, unfailing love.  

Expectation

Irritation that gets to the nerve!  Have you ever been irritated by some words you hear from other people?  Hearing an educator say, "I can’t stand an ungrateful child," makes my blood boil. What exactly does a "grateful child" mean to people like them? To these adults, a grateful child is a submissive robot. They expect children to offer effusive praise for the bare minimum and view total compliance as the only acceptable form of respect. In their eyes, a good child has no natural curiosity, never challenges authority, and never seeks autonomy. They demand that children suppress their own discomfort and remain perfectly content, even when their basic needs aren't being met. It is a completely transactional view of care, where children must constantly pay adults back with unprompted declarations of love and loyalty. Let's call it what it really is: a fragile ego.
