Senators Beef over his Colleague -

Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson stated that Senator Alan Peter Cayetano "belongs in jail" following an escalating public feud over allegations of personal corruption, legislative waste, and anomalies in flood control funding.
The bitter dispute between the two lawmakers involves three core conflicts:
Attacks on Personal Integrity: In July 2026, Cayetano questioned Lacson’s personal wealth via a Facebook livestream, pointing out that Lacson's declared net worth had doubled. Lacson fiercely defended his finances attributing his earnings to legitimate real estate deals and declared that Cayetano had "crossed the line". Lacson announced he is actively gathering informants and witnesses to build a criminal case to put Cayetano in jail.

The Flood Control Scandal: Lacson has accused Cayetano of securing ₱6.79 billion in unauthorized budget insertions (pork barrel) under the 2025 national budget. Furthermore, Lacson alleged that there are "ghost" flood control projects in Cayetano’s political stronghold of Taguig City. He claimed Taguig's city engineer amassed ₱500 million in casino winnings while executing these questionable infrastructure funds.

Wasted Senate Funds: Lacson also publicly accused Cayetano of wasting roughly ₱700 million in taxpayers' money during Cayetano's chaotic 28-day tenure as Senate President before he was ousted. Lacson cited a total "zero output" of legislative work during that month due to political boycotts and gridlock. In response, Cayetano has dismissed Lacson’s math regarding the Senate expenses as faulty. Cayetano has instead characterized himself as the true anti-corruption advocate, claiming that recent state investigations against him regarding infrastructure funding are politically motivated attempts by the majority bloc to intimidate the opposition.

 My Review on this issue

The escalating feud between Senators Lacson and Cayetano over alleged corruption, ₱6.79 billion in budget insertions, and ₱700 million in wasted funds highlights a critical crisis of accountability in Philippine governance. By resorting to personal attacks and threats of imprisonment rather than institutional scrutiny, the lawmakers' actions demonstrate a systemic vulnerability in the Senate, undermining public trust and leaving vital infrastructure projects in question. An independent investigation by the Ombudsman and the Commission on Audit is required to move beyond political theater and address these serious allegations.
